Oh My…!!! Our’s isn’t sectarian violence after all! The conflicts are musical. Ryan, please tell me I don’t have to re-orient both your rock AND religeous sensibilities. One miracle is tough enough to come by in these days of hardened secularism, much less two!!

If Joel Osteen could play a guitar, he to could be in the worlds greatest folk, pseudo-rock, religiously disingenious, corperate monolith known as U2.

Then again the lack of guitar playing ability hasn’t been too troubling to the Edge’s career.

How appropriate that U2’s video montage begins with Bowie’s( at least he could really rock)musical homage to the desperate indifference of heroin addiction…and not get the freakin point of what that song is all about….no let’s turn it into a myopic countdown by the musically challenged for the musically challanged….60,000 + people in a space is a lot of things… mostly about money..one thing it ain’t is great music….DON’T GET ME STARTED DUECK!!! 😦 🙂 🙂

“Then again the lack of guitar playing ability hasn’t been too troubling to the Edge’s career.”

I don’t even know what to say to that. Obviously you don’t play guitar.

Have a great time at the concert Ryan. I think I am going to get tickets to the Seattle concert next summer.

Thanks everyone. For those going to the concert, hopefully our paths will cross. With 50 000+ the odds aren’t great, but just look for the guy walking around with a black hat and a stupid-looking “I can’t believe I’m finally at a U2 concert” grin on his face (narrows it down a lot, I know). My only regret is that the Black-Eyed Peas are opening for this leg. A few weeks ago it was Muse (another band getting fairly regular play on the iPod these days…)!!

Ah well, at least Naomi’s happy (I think she’s more excited to see the BEP than U2, if you can believe it!).

Mostly having a little fun, JC. U2’s a pretty good band, I just like to poke fun at their “corperateness” and celebrity. Truly Ryan, I hope you have a great time.

I do play guitar, self and friend taught, can’t read music. Basic chord progressions with some beginner to intermediate level complementary finger picking stlyes, (simple arpeggio and alternating thumb) Reasonably fluid lead player, simple blues structures and runs.

Can’t seriously comment on Edge’s techniques or abilities, other than as a fan. Not really drawn to want to play or learn to play his songs. Find his early style to be annoyingly repetitive, more in the style of military drumming, than rock guitar playing. At least to my ear.

As for later work, I’m not a big listener anymore so my understanding is superficial at best. What I do hear sounds more rythmicly varied than earlier work but still not what I would describe as virtuoso. I like 70’s style bluesrock guitar styles, Page, Clapton, Beck , Blackmore as well as 70’s prog rock players, like Steve Howe and Steve Hackett. And then there is Mark Knoffler or Stevie Ray!!…

For me, before the massive corperatization of the band, they had to my ear anyways, a kind of cool, primative, bohemian sound. But no where near the guitar playing skills of bands like Led Zeppelin or Yes.

WOOT! Ken and I will be there… with bells on! I’m trying to decide if I should wear my leather jacket and sunglasses lol! I’ve never been to a concert in my life, so I may as well do the whole ‘dress like a FAN’ thing:)
I reserve the right to be ridiculous!

Yay! We’re going too! And apparently I’m supposed to keep my eyes open for Bono at Regent, it has been said that he dropped by the last time U2 played Vancouver – I don’t know if it’s true, but I did make sure my Iphone’s handy just in case!
