New Look

I’ve been sticking with the same WordPress template for quite a while now, but some have told me that the font is a little on the small side and it’s difficult to read. I’ve tried a few other templates to try to get a more readable look but nothing’s really impressed me.  The latest template from WordPress came out today so I thought I would give it a try

This one seems a bit easier to read to me, plus I think a few of the changes are kind of cool as well.  On the down side, it’s a bit plainer and the picture I had on the header of the previous template (which I quite like) doesn’t work as well with this one.  I’m going to keep tweaking things, but in the meantime I thought I would try this one for a week or so and seek your input on this weighty matter.  Is the new template better or easier to read?  Was the old one even that difficult, from your perspective?  Is this a trivial topic entirely unworthy of your consideration?   I’m all ears…

  1. I am trying to send you a poke and a piece of flare but this new template is not allowing it? can you fix this. Looks nice other wise.

  2. On a serious note if you want my opinion, having the title in giant letters in the center is goofy… but thats just me.

I think the font is the same size.

  4. Hey thanks for adding me to your blogrole… and I do prefer the new template, much easier to read. Though I do have one suggestion (it’s not as insensitively critical as my husband’s!)… I think you should bring back your music picks. I had never heard of “Miracle Fortress” before, but I am still listening to them all this time later.

  5. Thanks for the feedback. Paul, I would rather have the title on the side as well, but I can’t figure out how to do it. So far, I’m thinking there are enough good features of this template to offset my annoyance about the title, but we’ll see. Ken, for some reason the font seems bigger and more readable on a Mac than on PC’s. I don’t like this template nearly as much on my wife’s computer. One more reason to go the Mac route, I guess?

As for the music picks, Jessica, one of the simple reasons I no longer do this is that the cold hard reality of student loans has set in and I simply buy almost no music anymore (I’m saving my pennies now so that maybe in a month or two I can get U2’s new one—let’s just say it’s taking considerable restraint not to rush out and slap it on the credit card!). Advertising the fact that I’m still listening to the same five CD’s I was last year at this time seems like a waste of space (and is mildly embarassing!) so I decided to get rid of it. I am glad you’re enjoying Miracle Fortress—I forget where I heard of those guys, but it’s definitely one of the more interesting music purchases I’ve made in the last few years.

My friend used to say that you always have to strike a balance between “form” and “function.” From a form perspective, it’s not quite as slick as the previous template. From a “function” perspective, it’s much easier to read.
